Mount Athos is the third and most eastern peninsula of Halkidiki. It is a monastic republic, walled off from the rest of Greece. The peninsula has 20 monasteries. Agio Oros is the Greek name of the peninsula, and it means Holy Mountain. It is dedicated to Virgin Mary, who according to tradition was so impressed with the natural beauty of the mountain and asked for it to be her garden. Because of this, Mount Athos has been consecrated as her garden and out of bounds for any other woman. Men can apply for permits in advance to be able to stay with the monks on the peninsula. (see link below) Anybody can enjoy the beauty of the peninsula and see some of the monasteries from a boat tour that takes you along the shore of the Athos peninsula.
An unusual day tour along the monk's republic Athos within the scope of a restful ship trip. The monk's republic on the third and eastern peninsula of the Halkidiki lying, is a self-administering part of the Greek-orthodox church and his monuments from the Byzantine time take pleasure of worldwide fame. From the hotel the journey starts by the bus to Ormos Panagias, a small fishing place on the north-east coast of the Sithonia. Here we go aboard and reach in a restful boat trip the southeast point of the mountain Athos. The ship turns here and goes along the coast with breathtaking look at the monasteries. During this distance you receive from our tourist guide interesting informations about every monastery and the monastic life. On the border to the monk's republic in Ouranoupolis the ship puts in to a 2-hour stop where you have the opportunity, to take your lunch in one of the numerous taverns and to enjoy an Uozo. After ending of the lunch the ship brings you again to Ormos Panagias where our buses will wait around to bring you back into your hotel. The ship disposes of a bar with various drinks and sandwiches
DAILY CRUISE TO MOUNT ATHOS
9:30 – The cruise ship departs from Ormos Panagias, located on the north-east coast of the Sithonia peninsula – Halkidiki. Here you will board the boat for our daily cruise to Mount Athos and Ouranopolis. The ship sails across the bay and then heads in a south-westerly direction along the most mysterious of the three peninsulas of Halkidiki. While we sail close to the shore, our english speaking guide will give you a detailed explanation of the history of peninsula, of the monasteries you pass on the way, of the customs and the habits and life of monks.
13:30 – Arrival at Ouranopolis. Stop for about 2 hours. Time for visiting the ancient tower of Ouranopolis, taking optional meal in one of the numerous fish taverns, taking swim or shopping.
 15:30 – Departure from Ouranopolis. Enjoy the facilities on board
 17:00 – Arrival at Ormos Panagias
